Auditons are required to participate in Arts Umbrella's Youth Symphony, Junior Orchestra, and Little Symphony. See below for what you'll need to know before auditioning:

Eugene Youth Symphony Audition Requirements

  • When: Auditions for students wanting to be in the 2010-2011 Eugene Youth Symphony take place June 14-16 at the Lane Community College Choir Room. For more information please call 484-0473.
  • Where: Lane Community College Choir Room. Scroll down to bottom of page for a map and directions. 
  • Age limit: Maximum age is 21. No musician over 21 will be auditioned.
  • What to play: A short solo, no longer than 3 minutes, a two-octave major scale of your choice (a three octave major scale for violin players), and a two-octave melodic minor scale (a three octave melodic minor scale for violin players) of your choice. Percussionists will be asked to play a challenging snare drum solo and a mallet selection. All those auditioning will be asked to sight-read.

Eugene Junior Orchestra Audition Requirements

  • When: Auditions for students wanting to be in the 2010-2011 Junior Orchestra take place June 14-16 at the Lane Community College Choir Room. For more information please call 484-0473.
  • Where: Lane Community College Choir Room. Scroll down to bottom of page for a map and directions.
  • Age limit:Most members of the orchestra are in grades 6 - 10.
  • What to play:A short solo, no longer than 3 minutes in length, a two-octave major scale of your choice, and a two-octave melodic minor scale of your choice. Percussionists should be prepared to play a challenging snare drum solo and a mallet selection. All those auditioning will be asked to sight-read.

Little Symphony Audition Requirements

  • When: Auditions for students wanting to be in the 2010-2011 Little Symphony take place June 14-16 at the Lane Community College Choir Room. For more information please call 484-0473.
  • Where: Lane Community College Choir Room. Scroll down to bottom of page for a map and directions.
  • Age limit:At least 3 years of instruction required
  • What to play:A short solo, no longer than 3 minutes, and one- octave G, D, C and F major scales (violin players will be asked to play a two-octave D major scale. All those auditioning will be asked to sight-read.

 

Directions: 
Northbound (from the south) on Interstate 5
Take exit 189, and at the stop sign, turn left and continue west to the first intersection. Go straight through the intersection and continue along 30th Avenue. Turn left on Eldon Shafer Drive to access the east parking lots, or stay on 30th and take the first exit to the right after the intersection to access the west parking lots.

Southbound (from the north) on Interstate 5
Take exit 189 and continue to the traffic light. Turn right at the traffic light and go straight until the next intersection. Turn right at the intersection. Turn left on Eldon Shafer Drive to access the east parking lots or continue to the first exit on the right to access the west parking lots.

From Downtown Eugene
Take Willamette Street south
to 29th Avenue and move to the left lane. Turn left on to 29th and move into the right lane. Go six blocks until 29th ends at Amazon Parkway and turn right. Move to left lane and continue straight on Amazon through the intersection at Hilyard, and Amazon Parkway becomes 30th Avenue. Proceed east on 30th up and over the hill until the exits to Lane appear on the right. The first exit goes to the parking lots on the west side of main campus. The second college exit leads to the parking lots on the east side of campus
